Only a minority of students houses are equipped with air conditioning in Murcia. Count mine in with the majority. When temperatures rise from 89 to 92 to 95 to 99 and up, the best AC to seek is a cool breeze of the sea...or a good friend's beach house.
A few weeks ago my good friend Eve, a French expat living here in the region, invited Craig and me to spend the weekend in her house in a beach town, Los Alcázares, about 40 minutes away. For the weekend we indulged in sun, sea, and good food.
Living with a French friend for the weekend, I of course had to learn a thing or two about French cooking. Eve and I watched Julia and Julia all weekend (simply due to our short attention spans--we had to watch it in several 20-minute increments). I learned a few new recipes and along with a few new words. My personal favorites are boeuf and bouffe. Boeuf, as in the renowned Julia Child recipe boeuf bourguignon, means beef. Bouffe ("boof"), however, is the word we Americans unintentionally tend to substitute for the word boeuf. It means grub. So to the French, when we refer to the delectable, national, gastronomic dish of France, we reduce it to its rawest form. Grub.
Enjoy the eye-bouffe below. Bon appétit.

What a great weekend that was! Although I fear I'm about to get a phone call from my mother to tell me off about my table manners!!
