For my first two weeks back in Murcia, the daily temperature was right around 85ºF (30ºC). While I wanting to take advantage of the weather, I had spent those two weeks trying to get into the swing of things--planning for my university classes, meeting my new students, and picking up private classes. But during this time I was anxiously watching the weather forecast and glancing out windows, knowing that the beautiful hot days were numbered. I had to get to the beach, and I had to get there fast.
Yesterday I finally had a chance day to get to my favorite beach accessible by bus, Mazarrón (see map below).
When Craig and I stepped off the bus after an hour-and-a-half journey (of course my favorite beach is the furthest away with the most difficult bus schedule), the sun and heat greeted us like it had been all month. However, when we walked to the beach and laid down our towels, the sun gave way to the Murcian autumn, bringing the temperature down to about 73ºF (22ºC) and wind and clouds to accompany it. Not great beach weather.
But being the guiris that we are, we stayed on the continued reading, wrapping ourselves up in towels and sticking it out on the nearly deserted beach. We had a lovely day regardless.
My advice to a guiri: Disfrutar some of your favorite outdoor spots before the humid, Spanish winter settles in.
